This July 4th, 2018, we are celebrating America as she turns 242 years old. We are celebrating Americas, freedom earned by the sacrifice of many through the years. We honor the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States and what they have meant to our home land. We celebrate the heritage of America and our Founding Fathers who acknowledged “firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence.”

We celebrate America through The Service to America initiative programs/philosophies that many companies, organizations, and individuals live daily. These types of programs encourage citizens to become involved in community service to discover the rewards of volunteerism, to demonstrate the positive volunteer opportunities associated with giving-back to others and to help make their local communities a better, safer, and friendlier place. As individuals we should honor America by giving back to our communities in appreciation for the nation we love!

We should volunteer with veterans at local VA hospitals, make care packages for troops stationed overseas, clean up local parks, and work at homeless shelters and food banks, among many other service activities. We should celebrate America with a sense of Service and Kindness! The greatest way to Celebrate America is through Service!

We celebrate America by our embracing that we were founded as a Republic! “We must always consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill – the eyes of all people are upon us.” In this speech, which would later become known as “The City Upon a Hill” speech, John Kennedy paid tribute to the early role Americans played in creating a republic – he thanked citizens for a lifetime of friendship and trust — and he laid out the four essential qualities that he hoped would characterize his government: courage, judgment, integrity and dedication. Today those four qualities are essential for us to possess as citizens working together to create a better Republic!

So Celebrate America this year of 2018 and remember these words, from Abraham Lincoln when doing so:

“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal” We need an awakening in America, an awakening to kindness, respect of differences, and love. This July 4th, 2018 and every day we join together to Celebrate America!
